GREAT BARR VOLUNTEERS
have got together during the coronavirus crisis.
Our volunteers are here to help you if you are isolated and cannot get your shopping or medication - or simply if you need someone to tallk to.
All our volunteers have been accredited, with thorough identity checks. They will not ask you for money, except to pay for any shopping they are delivering to you.
New!
We can now offer the following if you are shielding, self-isolating or facing extreme hardship.
- Facemasks for your prot
ection
- From our BookBank, we can lend you: books, jigsaws, puzzles, DVDs and CDs to suit your interests. The Book Bank has been created through the generous donations of the people of Great Barr.
- Want to join a video chat group? If you have never used video chat before we can help you learn how to do it and connect you with others. Could you help with this? We are looking for people, who are at home, who would like to help form chat groups to connect with people who are lonely and isolated.
- Access to IT. We are converting old tablets to "videophones"
to help people who have never used tech before get access to video-chats and make calls to their families. We will be working with a very small number of people - if you know someone who would benefit please let us know.
- Access to food parcels - for those who have no money.
The volunteers are working with local councillors Jon Hunt and Morriam Jan and local vicar Rev Siobhan Bridge on this project. There are currently more than 60 volunteers active in Great Barr and we can provide assistance within the postcodes of B42, B43 and B44..
We have received funding from Birmingham City Council and the 3Bs (Beeches, Booths and Barr) Neighbourhood Forum to develop some of this activity and the Forum is providing oversight and safety policies for volunteers,
It's very important in this time of crisis to keep yourself safe. Do not give money to strangers who make promises.
